Sometimes it happens that you alter a Registry which may cause error on your PC. The best way to Prevent errors is to make a Backup of your Registry so that you can restore when any error occurs after the tweaking.
To do this:
Go to Start and then click "Run".
Type "regedit", and then click OK.
Select "My Computer" the master branch.
On the File menu, click Export.
Type a name for your registry and Save it.
To restore the registry just Double click the saved .reg file and then click OK.
Cheers!:cheers

Everybody should do this before installing major software, or any kind of software for that matter. You never know what will happen.

There in fact, is a built-in utility to use for completely backing up Windows. You have to have Windows XP Professional minimum to do this. It can also be found on Media Center Edition of XP.
Point to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup

This method is most successfull. Though there are many softwares which can recover the lost data but not 100% guaranteed.
Some data is recovered as broken.
